Tubbies our Jack Russel just chased off a bear! We were out for a walk when we heard a crash right off the road about 100 feet from us. It was in thick woods so I couldn't see what it was. My wife was scared and didn't want to go any further. I told her that it probably was just a branch falling out of a tree, and she agreed. Tubbies then ran ahead (like she often does) and began barking very a...

The cinder block cracked because of the heat. They are not heat resistant blocks

They have not made cement blocks from cinder for almost 100 years so you and everyone else that calls them cinder blocks are wrong... They are made from CEMENT

A word to the wise. Always use dry cinder blocks when making a rocket stove like this and always stand clear when you first light them just in case one of them explodes from moisture trapped inside. Other than that they work very well in an emergency situation.

Be so careful about the steam coming off of that. Pressurized steam will burn you worse than some fires. Be sure to wear gloves in the future when removing it from the fire.

You didn't really improve anything. I have a few suggestions: 1. Cover the auxiliary hole parallel to the chimney hole. This will ensure the heat stays there and accumulates, while radiating back to burning chamber/chimney. 2. Maybe make a small hole into burning chamber from the auxiliary hole. Uncover the aux hole when the bricks gets really hot. This will provide additional air to the system which will also be heated since it must go through the heated aux chamber along the chimney part. 3. Insulate the system better. Or use the radiant heat of the stove to dry the wood that will go to the stove. 4. Use some kind of radiant steel mesh mantle inside the chimney portion of the stove where gases burn. This will increase burn rate to the maximum.

This girl built a better rocket stove than 90% of the 'men' building them on jewtube. lol Very few people include the shelf to separate wood air intakes, very important. She also has a better feed tube chimney height ratio than most. Nice Capitol L shape is good. ProTip for cooking beans: Crack them to reduce cook time from a couple of hours to around 20 minutes. Improvised bean/grain cracker/grinder can be made like this... Bundle of 2' long 1/2" steel pipe taped together and an empty large stout #10 can, like the giant cans green beans come in. Toss some beans in the can, and use the bundle of pipe to smash them, like churning butter but with more authority in your strokes.

Put a cone shaped piece to draw air in and it will be turbocharged ! In S carolina I saw a huge 14 foot by 10 foot heavy galvanized pipe elbow. The farmer would push it up against the burn pile with his cat dozer. The venturi effect would draw air in and as it went through the elbow it would speed up and burn the wood cleaner hotter and cleaner. The large end needs to be the intake side and the smaller end towards the fire.
